Invoices and Quotes

Lodg lets you create professional invoices and quotes directly from your dashboard. Here's everything you need to know.

How do I create an invoice?

  1. Go to the Invoices tab in your Lodg dashboard
  2. Click New Invoice
  3. Add your client's details (name, email, address)
  4. Add line items — description, quantity, and price
  5. Choose whether pricing is GST inclusive or exclusive (see below)
  6. Set a due date
  7. Click Send to email it directly to your client, or Save as a draft

Lodg automatically calculates GST, totals, and due dates. Once your client pays, mark the invoice as paid and Lodg records the income for your tax return.

Can I add my logo to invoices?

Yes. When you create or edit an invoice, you can upload your business logo. Once uploaded, it will appear automatically on all your invoices — giving them a polished, professional look that reflects your brand.

Your logo can be updated at any time from your Account Settings.

Should I choose GST exclusive or inclusive?

This setting controls how GST is applied to your invoice amounts.

GST Exclusive — prices do not include GST, Lodg adds it on top:

You enter $100. Lodg adds $15 GST. The client pays $115. Use this if you typically say "my rate is $X plus GST."

GST Inclusive — prices already include GST, Lodg works backwards:

You enter $115. Lodg calculates $15 is GST, $100 is your income. The client pays $115. Use this if you quote an all-in price and say "including GST."

The amount of GST you return to IRD is the same either way — it's just how you present pricing to clients.

Not registered for GST? If your turnover is under $60,000 and you're not GST-registered, do not add GST to your invoices. You cannot charge GST until you are registered.

Can I create a quote first?

Yes. Lodg lets you create a quote and convert it to an invoice once the work is approved. This keeps your records clean and avoids double entry.

What is a valid tax invoice?

If you are GST-registered and your invoice is for more than $50, it must meet IRD's tax invoice requirements:

  • The words "Tax Invoice" on the document
  • Your name and GST registration number
  • Date of the invoice
  • Description of the goods or services
  • The GST amount charged, or a statement that GST is included at 15%

Lodg generates compliant tax invoices automatically when you're set up as GST-registered.
